What it does
A bill is money you owe a supplier: who it's from, a reference, when it's dated, when it's due, the total and the category it belongs to. Open bills show on this page with what's still To pay and what's Overdue.
You pay a bill by explaining the bank payment against it (type Bill payment). Quickie proposes the match itself when a payment out is exactly what a bill still needs and names the supplier or reference. Once payments cover the bill it turns Paid — part-payments are fine.
Where to find it
- Navigation: Finance → Bills (owners only)
- URL:
/dashboard/bills
Step by step
Add a bill
- Click Add a bill.
- Enter the Supplier and, if there is one, the Reference from their bill.
- Set Dated and Due (due defaults to 30 days after today), and the Total (£) including any VAT.
- Choose the Category — the same list as Banking.
- If you're VAT registered, choose the VAT.
- Add Notes if useful, then Add bill.
Pay a bill
Pay it from your bank as usual. When the payment comes in on a feed or statement, Quickie proposes Bill payment — Supplier in the account's For approval tab; approve it. Or explain the line yourself: Type → Bill payment, then pick the bill.
Edit, void, reopen or delete a bill
Use the pencil to edit. A bill nothing has paid can be deleted with the bin; one with payments is voided instead (the ⊘ icon), so the payments keep their record. A voided bill can be reopened with the arrow.
What each screen shows
- To pay — the total still owed on open bills, and how many.
- Overdue — the part of that past its due date.
- The filter — Open, Overdue, Paid, Void or All bills.
- The table — Supplier (and which account paid it, and when), Dated, Due (red when overdue), Category, Total and what's left To pay.
Tips and good to know
- Bills count in Profit & loss when they're paid (cash basis), in the bill's category.
- Adding bills as they arrive puts them into the AI monthly summary's "bills due soon".
- Removing the explanation on a bill payment reopens the bill.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| A payment wasn't matched to the bill | The amount must be exactly what's left to pay. Explain it yourself: Bill payment, then the bill. |
| "That's more than the bill still needs" | Part is already paid. Split the bank line, or check the bill's total. |
| The bill doesn't appear in the picker | Only open bills with money left to pay are listed. |
